AUBURN, Maine — A Manchester man was listed in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland Tuesday, a day after he was involved in a three-vehicle collision on Route 4 in North Turner. Brian Cox, 55, was driving a 2000 GMC pickup truck north on Route 4 when witnesses said that the truck made a turn into the southbound lane and struck a 2007 International delivery truck driven by Burleigh Dudley, 48, of North Waterboro, a release from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department said. After the collision, the pickup spun around and went back into the northbound lane and struck a 1998 Chrysler Sebring driven by Jennifer Mains, 25, of Auburn. Mains tried to avoid a collision, the release said.
A United Ambulance came upon the crash moments after it happened and was one of a number of emergency responders who assisted in the call. An ambulance took Mains to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after the collisions, which were reported around 6 p.m. Monday. She was treated and released from the hospital, the Sheriff’s Department said. Cox was extricated from his truck and taken to CMMC and then transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The release said that Dudley had no injuries. The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case. Members of the state police’s accident reconstruction division and the commercial vehicle division assisted at the scene.
Route 4 was closed from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday and traffic was rerouted following the crash.
