LEBANON, Maine  – Four people were taken to the hospital after a three vehicle crash Tuesday night on the Carl Broggi Highway. Lebanon rescue says there were two cars pulled off to the side of the road; a disabled Buick, and a Jeep that was helping out. A third car, a Chevy Caprice, hit the parked Buick, which slammed into the Jeep in front of it. The driver of the Jeep was looking under the hood of the Buick at the time of the crash and was thrown 30 feet into a ditch. The driver of the Buick was talking to the passenger in the Jeep. Both were injured along with a 3 year old child. The driver of the Caprice was treated at the scene. None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.

Following that crash emergency crews were called to Little River Road for an SUV into a telephone pole. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle because wires had fallen.  Once CMP arrived, the driver was pulled out of the car. He was taken to Goodall Hospital and is expected to be okay. Both crashes are under investigation.

PITTSFIELD, Maine — A husband and wife were hospitalized with serious injuries Sunday after they were thrown from a motorcycle, according to Pittsfield Police Department Sgt. Timothy Roussin. The couple of Waverly Avenue in Pittsfield were traveling out of town on Main Street on their Harley-Davidson motorcycle at about 1:30 p.m. In the area of 534 Main St., according to Roussin, the couple passed a family member’s house and the husband, who was driving, beeped to someone who was outside doing lawn work. He didn’t notice that a Toyota Camry driven by a man, 56, was slowing to turn into his home next door. The motorcycle hit the back of the Toyota and both husband and wife, who were not wearing helmets, were thrown from the bike.

The husband, 44, suffered multiple broken bones, and the wife, 41, suffered a major head injury, according to Roussin. The couple has children, but Roussin did not know how many or their ages. They were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor — the wife by LifeFlight helicopter. The husband was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon, according to an EMMC spokeswoman. No information was available about the wife’s condition. In addition to Roussin, officers from the Maine State Police, Somerset County Sheriff’s Department and rescue workers from Pittsfield Fire Department and Sebasticook Valley Hospital assisted at the scene.

Roussin said witness statements and a reconstruction of the crash indicated driver inattention was to blame for the accident. No charges against any of the people involved are expected.
