Berman & Simmons law firm is proud to announce that attorney Susan Faunce is the new president of the Maine State Bar Association (MSBA). Born in South Korea, attorney Faunce is the first Asian American to hold this title.
With nearly 2,800 member lawyers, the MSBA works to promote members’ professionalism and advance their skills and knowledge to support the public interest in a fair and effective justice system. Previously, attorney Faunce co-chaired the Women’s Law Section of the MSBA, which provides a forum for women lawyers to gather for regular educational programs and discussion of issues of interest to women attorneys.
As a shareholder at Berman & Simmons, attorney Faunce represents people seriously harmed by personal injury and medical negligence.
“Susan’s election as MSBA president acknowledges her unwavering dedication to excellence in practicing law,” said Craig Bramley, managing director at Berman & Simmons. “She is a true leader within the firm and community. She is a tireless client advocate, always pursuing justice.”
Attorney Faunce always knew that she wanted to become a lawyer based on her experiences at an early age and to significantly impact peoples’ lives. After graduating from Bowdoin College and joining the Peace Corps, she returned to Maine to earn her J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law.
“My upbringing taught me the value of resilience and adaptability in overcoming challenges,” said attorney Faunce. “My commitment is to stand as a strong advocate and to work diligently to secure the best possible resolution for my clients. As a woman in the practice of law, I also recognize the critical importance of diverse voices in shaping a more just and equitable legal system, and I am proud to contribute to that legacy.”
Previously, attorney Faunce has served in leadership roles at the MSBA and was president of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association. In addition, she serves on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court Advisory Committee on the Rules of Evidence, and The Maine Justice Foundation and has served on the Local Rules Advisory Committee for the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine. Susan is also a member of the American Association for Justice.
